Interval Training

Thursday 6/24/2010

This morning I had to get up a little early then expected to get my quick workout in and then start working.  I started thinking of what I needed to work on.  Obviously over the year my endurance has picked up.  I have brought my mile under 7 minutes and I can run a 400 meter in a comfortable 1:15.  But I need work on my transition from one movement to the next.  I decided I would choose 2 endurance related movements.

Double Unders (which are 2 rope swings under one jump)

Sit ups

This was all body weight but my problem is my sit ups are slower then my double unders.  It is because I have always focused on weight training and not body movements.  Over the past 24 months I have become very good at pull-ups air squats and push -ups.  I can do 40+ pull-ups unbroken but my sit ups are drastically slow.  So I worked with interval training.

I decided to do interval training instead of an unbroken workout because your work capacity can be at maximum output at all times.  I decided to do

25 double unders

25 sit ups

I needed to complete each round in under 2 minutes and then I rested 2 minutes.  I repeated this for 3 rounds.  It sounds easy but trust me try it.  I figured that this would be the best way to practice my weakness.  If you can rest between rounds then you will always be able to go at nearly 100% per round.  This style of training is sometimes far more beneficial then unbroken workouts.

Monday 6/21/2010

The Paleo Kits have been a big hit for us.  They are purchased for a non-profit organization that trains inner city children functional fitness.  We have had a big following and I know I keep posting about them but they go so quick that I want people to see the posts so they know they can get a great deal by coming through us.  Regardless we are still supporting a great cause.

1-9 Paleo Kits - $7 a piece

10-20 Paleo Kits - $6.50 a piece

20 + - $6 a piece

This way it is cheaper then ordering online as well as you can get them the same day.  It is 29.75 for 5 Paleo kits but $37.95 after shipping.  It is $148.75 for 25 kits but then with shipping it is $159.00.  If you come here to get your Paleo Kits it is

$35 for 5 Paleo Kits

$65 for 10 Paleo Kits

$ 150 for 25 Paleo Kits

These prices that I got the store will cut costs by about $10 because of shipping costs.  Furthermore, you will still be helping a this great organization because the more I order from Steve's Club the more money they receive for training inner city youth.

I wanted to give my customers some sort of a discount so this is what I could do.

Hope this helps.

Quick Diet Fixes

When I was a Sophomore at Santa Clara University, I was fortunate enough to study in Florence, Italy for nearly 8 months.  The reason I share this story is that living with a European family painted a different picture on my reality of how we live our lives in the States.  Every afternoon, I would come home to my host parents preparing for their afternoon stroll.  When I say afternoon stroll, it was not a 5:30pm walk after an eight or nine hour work day.   It was what a lot of us like to call a siesta.  They would walk every afternoon around 2:30pm to the local grocery store to get fresh produce for dinner.

In America, we have large refrigerators and freezers that can store food for weeks or months.  In Italy, my family had a fridge you would see in a college dorm room, the ones where you store beer and left over pizza.  Why did my family have a mini fridge?  It was simple. Europeans do not store left-overs.  They do not believe in preservatives or processed foods.  They keep fresh deli meat, fruit, bread, dairy and vegetables, and only enough to get them through the week as a snack.  That’s it.  For dinner, they would buy fresh meat that has been killed that morning.  (*You can actually wake up to gun shots in the Tuscany Hills, where families are hunting their dinner).

This way of life changed my perspective on eating.  Why, as Americans, do we have left-overs, meat processed in a plant, or certain canned goods that last on a shelf for 2 months?  It’s because we are always in a rush.  We all strive to discover the quickest diet fix available.  We don't have time to take a stroll to the grocery store and pick up our meal for the evening.  We have to get our children to school, then to soccer practice, then to their music practice, all while trying to work from our beloved cell phones.  The problem here is that we typically turn to preservative-filled foods and foods high in starches.  These foods lead to weight gain, increase (LDL) bad cholesterol levels, and can cause other serious health issues.  WE MUST BRING OURSELVES TO CHOOSE NATURAL FOOD PRODUCTS.

One solution for this lies in what I like to call, a Natural Diet Quick- fix.  I prefer any Perfect Food bar for this.  Perfect Food bars are not a brand name, but simply a style of food.  They usually consist of nuts and dry fruit clumped together by honey.  They are low on the glycemic index, no hydrogenated oils, gluten free and non GMO.  There are also choices such as dried South American fruit, or grass fed jerky with dried nuts.  All these choices are available at HealtheCentric.

Here is the tip of the week:  Next time you’re at the local grocery store, stay on the outside aisles.  Anytime you go to the center of the supermarket, you will find all the manufactured and processed goods.  Start on the outside and stay on the outside, if you can.  This will be your first step to a healthy lifestyle.

FOUNDATION to GREAT HEALTH

As real estate agents you don't really work a nine to five job.  You’re on call to show houses and cater to your clients’ needs at various times throughout the day.  Your phone rings with new listings, current listings or potential leads.  What does this mean? Your phone is your best friend.  It follows you to your son/daughters ball game, to the family BBQ, and even to the gym.  Your health and fitness regimens begin to take a back seat to family and work, and before you know it they become stagnant.

Start your new plan right this summer.

As you begin it, remember this:  90% of Health and Fitness is what you put in your body and only 10% is your physical activity.  "We are what we eat".  Feelings of sluggishness, unhappiness and laziness are also associated with poor nutritional intake.

It is time to take that first step to make a change in your daily diet! If you do, you will become addicted to the benefits, and it will quickly become a number 1 priority in your life.  It will not only become a habit, but a lifestyle.  This will not be an easy transition, though.  We, as Americans, are presented with a high pace lifestyle that revolves around quick alternatives for a meal.  These choices are not solely the responsibility of the consumer, but also an influence of an industry that thrives off supplying tasty snacks to convenience-hungry consumers.

Sometimes in-taking all the necessary nutrients your body needs can be near impossible, especially when you are on a demanding fitness routine.  This is where supplementation can play a critical role, but even this may sometimes seem overwhelming.

At Health e Centric, we understand this. That is why we have built an Interactive Apple Program that is available in the store for you to review all your health goals and current vitamins, and supplements you should be taking to reach these goals. The Healthecentric application actually allows you to sit down, relax, and “interact with your Health”.  Like Intero's image of innovation in the real estate market, Health e Centric wants to shadow this idea for the health industry.

Come in and learn more about your health. Become a member of the Family and earn 10% off every purchase and 20% during the first week of every month if you are a member of a gym or fitness studio.  Also ask us about our Auto-Shipping services and have your products delivered straight to your doorstep so you can spend more time with your family, clients, and fitness routines.

Take action and Start Your Health Right Today.

In the end, "It's About Your Life. Isn't it?”

Front Squat

Tuesday 6/15/2010

Why are front squats so important?  Many people focus on back squats and never address a front squat.  A front squat will put emphasis on the glutes.  It almost puts more emphasis on the glutes then the quads depending on your depth in an actual squat.

Also, a missed power clean is often referred to as a squat clean.  How can you complete a full squat clean if you don't know what your front squat max is.  If you can do a 300lb front squat, you should be able to squat clean 300lb.  Ok, that may be a little overboard but usually that is the case.  The pull is usually not so hard once you learn the correct technique.  Often if you can front squat 300+ pounds, you should be able to pull 300 above your waist.  Now all we need is for you to learn what your front squat is.  Do not neglect the front squat.  It is vital in your progress in adding weights to the important lifts.
